Vikings: Mid-Point Report [2-6]
The mighty have fallen... the team that finished the year with 10 straight victories and a SuperBowl titles now finds itself @ 2-6 midway through the season.

The biggest concern at this point, the QB play... it's hard to convert on 3rd down and FAR TOO many drives die when you're completig less than 50% of your passes.

It seem the Vikings coaching staff is still in search of a scheme that matches up with the offense. The defense has been respectable and typically is in a tough spot when points are surrendered.

I've been please with the play of WR Percy Harvin, HB Adrian Peterson & Hugh Harmon... these 3 guys seem to be the heart of the team.

Rookie Watch:
1.2 MLB Hugh Harmon
78 tackles (leads the league), 9 tackles for a loss & an INT... Harmon seems to be involved in EVERY game (9 tackles minimum in every game).
2.13 OLB Bert Davis
17 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss & an INT... Davis recently earned the starting job and seems to have it locked down from here on out.
3.6 HB Bronze Pittman
14 carries for 44 yards... Pittman was recently bumped up in the depthchart as the backup (which means very little knowing A.P. is a lock to carry the ROCK).
3.32 WR Jeremy Johnson
4 receptions for 67 yards... doesn't see much action & is for the most part just around to fill a roster spot.
6.2 FS Jamar Robbins
30 tackles, 2 INT's and has defended 11 passes while only giving up 2 catches... this 6th round pick has stated since day 1 and has been a pleasant surprise.
7.2 CB Jamere Andrews
Hasn't even sniffed playing time... hopefully wont hit the field anytime soon.
7.14 CB Dre McCormack
Some how this guy snuck on the field week 3 and registered a tackle... hoping that never happens again.
7.32 CB Akeem Hasty
Don't be surprised this guy hasn't played yet... he was the last guy drafted this offseason.

The defending Super Bowl CHAMPS... Minnesota Vikings, played host to Americas Team Week 1. The Offseason was brutal for the once MIGHTY Purple & any success seen this season will be the result of a team that definately is still in search of it's identity.

The Good:
* It didn't get much better than rookie MLB Hugh Harmon who had 13 tackles (2 were for a loss)... he seemed to be EVERYWHERE!

* WR Percy Harvin appears to be the primary target for newly appominted signal caller Jay Cutler... Percy had 6 receptions for 176 yards.

* Rookie FS Jamar Robbins had 4 tackles and was the proud recipiant of an ill advised pass by QB Tony Romo.

The Bad:
* Special Teams gave up a 95 yard kick return for a score... Felix Jones delivered the deadly blow.

* SS Kam Chancellor was named MVP of the game... 3 tackles, a fumble recovery returned 60 yards (eventually resulting in 3 points), an interception & 2 deflections.

Closing statement from GM Darryl Breckheimer:
There no shame in losing to quality team managed by one of the best The GridIron has to offer, Kevin Mullendore has my utmost respect. I'm pleased that QB Jay Cutler didn't lose this game for us... though I already find myself missing the "come back magic" Brett Favre provided. Also, it wasn't easy parting way with MLB Brian Urlacher this offseason... but, I believe rookie MLB Hugh Harmon showed why we selected him 2nd overall! Welook forward to week 2 when we face the Denver Broncos... another home game in our NEW outdoor stadium! cool

Season in review... reflection off the LOMBARDY TROPHY!

:
It was the evening of July 4th, 2010 when General Manager Darryl Breckheimer stepped out of the shower (after a 4.76 mile run), brushed his teeth & hair and prepared to watch his Minnesota Vikings face the San Diego Chargers in The GridIron’s inaugural season Super Bowl.
Standing BUCK naked in his room (known as the MAN CAVE) Breck (Darryl Breckheimer) pondered what ensemble would be appropriate for the occasion.  Deep in the corner of his closet he saw his Adrian Peterson HOME jersey hanging… but QUICKLY looked away.  On 5 occasions the jersey had been worn during the 2009 NFL season… Breck only wears the jersey when attending a home game or while watching an away game from the comfort of his home.  The jersey had fallen on hard times… the last time the jersey had been worm was when the Vikings visited the Saints in the NFC Championship game (OUCH). Prior to that, the luck of the jersey had seen no better… the Arizona Cardinals (week 13) WHOOP’d the Vikings 30-17 and sent their starting MLB to the mash unit, while Julius Peepers & his Panthers (week 15) had Favre & Childress in a cat fight on the sidelines & finally Jay Cutler looked like a Hall of Fame QB in defeating his divisional rival late in the season.  The only time the jersey had been worn when the Vikings actually won was when Breck & his youngest son attended the home game when the Vikings beat up on the helpless Lions (week 10).
Breck still stood naked (starting to get goose bump all over his chiseled frame) pondering the decision he had been faced with… what was the perfect ensemble for the occasion.  Knowing the history of the jersey… he reached for it knowing there was no turning back!
To relive the Super Bowl in full detail would be difficult, looking back on it seems a blur & dream like.  No doubt the event took its toll on me… in the span of 46 seconds late in the 4th quarter, the lead exchanged 3 times.  Almost seemed as though a game of arena football was taking place, and with 35 seconds left and the Chargers having the ball things did not look good.  But in the end, the Mighty Purple DEFENSE was willing to bend but NOT BREAK and ensured that the Lombardy Trophy would FINALLY make its home in Minnesota.  The Vikings would finally be crowned Champs… a feat never before accomplished by the franchise (4 previous failed visits) or their General Manager (3 previous failed visits).
Looking back on it now, a Super Bowl victory failed to live up to the hype (no offense Tyler)… in large part; this was due to the desire to face the Green Bay Packers in the post season and attempt to beat what many thought was the BEST team in the league.  The Vikings failed to defeat the Packer in 2 regular season games… both were close hard fought matches, but in the end the better team won.  The Vikings & Breck got their wish in the NFC Championship game… a 3rd attempt to beat the team who had captured the NFC North Title.  At this late hour (and 6 Newcastles later) I can only say this, though the events of the victory over the Packers are hard to recall… I knew my season was complete when GM Mike Ryabin signed off MSN IM with over 3 minutes to go in the game in complete frustration and down 29-17.
In closing, I want to thank my fellow GM’s for a great season… and ensure each of you I’m here to stay (I had always promised myself to retire after I won it all).  Truly gave up believing I could win it all… years ago!  In the end, having a Trophy to claim as yours means little… though I may want to win as much as the next schlepp, I find myself simply in it for the camaraderie of my fellow GridIron General Managers.

BRING ON SEASON II ALREADY!

The Minnesota Vikings aquired MLB Brian Urlacher & FS Michael Huff... and are set to bring in the QB Jay Cutler (awaiting League Aproval) as their signal call of the future.
