Texans 2011 Starters |
*BLUE - New Starter*
QB M.Schaub - Needs to play much better than 2010 and find chemistry with his receivers. Otherwise our offense will continue to struggle.
HB S.Slaton
FB G.Jones - Late FA addition who represents a huge upgrade to our FB position. We look forward to him flattening defenders all over the field.
WR A.Johnson
WR M.Young - 1 of our 3 1st round picks, Young should have an immediate impact. Playing opposite AJ, he'll face the opposition's weaker Corner every game and he needs to exploit the advantage.
TE O.Daniels
LT D.Brown
LG W.Smith
C S.Caudle - The Rookie 1st round pick beat out incumbent Chris Myers for the starting Center job with his great footwork and mobility. There will be some growing pains but Caudle should spend the next 10 years as our starting C.
RG J.Jerry
RT E.Winston
LE J.Waters - Waters will be our 3rd Rookie starter and he's a different approach at the DE spot for us. We're testing out the size/strength theory vs. our old speed/explosiveness beliefs. He won't replace Mario Williams' numbers, but we hope he can help collapse the pocket.
DT R.Brace
DT A.Okoye
RE A.Smith
LOLB X.Adibi
MLB D.Ryans - We're hoping for status quo from Ryans, Cushing and Adibi. We're very pleased with our LB situation and their 2010 performance.
ROLB B.Cushing
CB M.Trufant
CB G.Quin Jr.
SS B.Pollard
FS E.Berry - Played great for a Rookie, but now we need him to make more plays on the ball and create some turnovers. |

Texans Shutdown Chiefs |
HOUSTON, TX (AP) - Run the ball, stop the run. An old school strategy that's usually easier said than done. But the 2010 Texans are starting to do just that and it's paying off. This week they held the Chiefs to just 67 yards on the ground and under 3 YPC while Steve Slaton gained 134 yards on just 20 carries and an explosive 52 yard TD that sealed the victory in the 4th QT. The Defense continues to play out of this world, not even surrendering an Offensive TD to KC. They recorded another INT to maintain their League Lead in Takeaways and improved on an already stellar Opponent Passer Rating. Rookie QB Colt McCoy turned in a surprisingly good effort against a solid Chiefs Pass D. These early career starts are speeding up his development and his performance is validating managements' belief that he can be a very good backup & emergency starter for the foreseeable future.
The team now gets an extra week to prepare for the rematch with Indy. They hope the Bye Week gives Schaub a chance to fully recover for what is looking to be one of the biggest games of the season for both teams. |

Texans: Week 5 |
Recap
Recurring theme for the season, the Defense played well and held us in the game. Unfortunately the Offense wasn't able to pull out the victory this week, but they had a chance. Defense stopped the Giants twice inside 2 minutes to give the O a shot at the victory. It was too much to ask of McCoy and he failed to move the team within FG range.
Game Balls
Offense: HB Steve Slaton - 27 att, 115 yds, 4.26 avg, 18 Long
- Slaton had another strong game and he's been the Offenses most consistant performer. The gameplan going in to run the ball more worked as Slaton did everything asked of him.
Defense: MLB DeMeco Ryans - 8 Tkl, 1 TFL
- No-one on the D had a standout performance, but Ryans led by example in this one.

Texans: Week 4 |
Recap
Another defensive stand-off, but poor QB play on both sides played into that. 7 INTs between the 2 QBs meant the defenses were feasting off the inexperienced slingers. We could've built a bigger lead but Rackers missed 2 very makeable 40yd FGs after turnovers in the 1st Half. Despite his 3 INTs, 2 of which were in the End Zone, McCoy played surprisingly well completing a majority of his passes and getting rid of the ball much quicker than his first outing.
Game Balls
Offense: WR Antonio Bryant - 4 Rec, 91yds, 10 YAC
- Bryant may have only caught 4 balls, but they were all big catches resulting in 1st Downs. He's quietly had a solid season with most of the attention being focused on AJs early struggles.
Defense: LE Mario Williams - 6 Tkl, 2 TFL, 3 SCK, 1 DFL
- The Raiders RT Murtha was no match for Williams on the game. The formal 1st overall pick was easily getting by the 24 year old Lineman and causing havoc in the Oakland backfield all game.
Lineup Report
Once again we moved our CBs around to match the opponents WRs. Fred Bennett drew into the starting lineup against all of the Raiders big receivers. The move pushed Rookie Wilson to the #4 spot yet he still managed to deflect a pass and grab an INT, his 3rd of the season.

Texans: Week 3 |
Recap
This was a defensive battle for most of the game, especially the 1st Half. Neither D was conceeding any ground to the opponent and these 2 units really looked dominating. It was 3-3 until the final minute when the Cowboys completed a bomb and then scored a TD to go up 10-3 at Halftime. The 2nd Half was much of the same...until the dying minutes. The Cowboys were up 16-9 and QB Schaub had just gone down with an injury. Rookie Colt McCoy comes into the game and proceeds to hit WR Williams on a 88yd bomb to tie it with under 2 Min to play. The Cowboys then move the ball down field and Buehler nails what was surely the game-winning FG with just :04 left on the clock. Dallas suib kicks and the ball dies on the 25, Davis picks it up on the run with the gunner already behind him, makes 1 juke and the blocks open up a seem as he takes it 75 yards for the winning TD. Insane ending!
Game Balls
Offense: WR Derrick Williams - 5 Rec, 160yds, 1 TD, 42 YAC
- He was acquired for a 5th round pick in the Offseason from the Lions and this game alone made him worth every penny. Other than his 88yd TD catch to tie the game, he was solid all game in the slot, especially some crucial 3rd down catches to move the chains.
Defense: MLB DeMeco Ryans - 13 Tkl, 3 TFL, 1 Sck, 1 FF, 1 DFL
- Ryans was an absolute freak in this game! He was everywhere, breaking up everything the Cowboys O tried to do. His first real strong game of the season after a very pedestrian start.
Lineup Report
Our #2 and #3 CBs switched spots again. With Dallas using the speedy Ogletree at the RWR spot instead of Williams, we moved Wilson back into the starting position and Quin to the Nickle. Mixed results, Ogletree had a decent game catching a TD pass while Wilson grabbed an INT. We also switched around our DTs, putting the bigger/stronger Brace at the Over Tackle and Okoye at the Under. No definitive answer on that one yet...
Injuries
QB Matt Schaub went down with a strained abdominal late in the 4th QT and will miss at least the next 3 games. We hope to have him back for a huge Week 8 battle with the Colts. Thankfully we get our Bye in Week 7 to give him an extra week of recovery. |
