--------------------------------------------------

After finished the 2010 season with a 7 and 9 record, the Raiders are looking for more in this upcoming campaign. The Raiders had a good defense last year, but the offense did not materialize behind the mediocre quarterback lineup. In 2011, they went out to further strengthen their defense in the offseason, but once again, they will have to wait on how the offense will perform behind Tim Tebow, who according to sources will be the prime starter for the team in 2011.

Despite the willingness for general manager Ricky Lung to work with scramblers, he admits that a lot of them are borderline projects most of the time. While that's the case, Tebow is one of those he envisions that will have success if he is used in the right system. He has improved, although not at the level he can produce constantly just yet, nonetheless he should play better. The Raiders also have a better offensive line than last year.

On the defensive side of the field, although paying a high price, the team feel that they had taken advantage of the situation where teams need to make salary move, by acquring two stars in Brian Urlacher and Mario Williams. The two should give the team even a better defense than the already decent one from a year ago.

Raiders Fought Hard But Came Up Short on Arizona

- RAIDERS FOUGHT TOUGH BUT CAME UP SHORT IN ARIZONA -
Date: May 21, 2010

Against a good offensive team, the Raiders defense was destroyed after two stellar performances in the first two games. The Raiders came up short in Arizona, losing to the Cardinals 27-34.

The Cardinals took a early 10-point lead and keep chipping away once the Raiders cut it close. The Cardinals never trailed in the game. The Raiders tied the game 3 times but cannot take the lead. They had a chance to take a 23-20 lead, but Janikowski hit a 42-yard FG attempt just outside the goal post.

With a defensive line that lacks the speed, the Raiders hoped to generate more pressure on Aaron Rodgers by sending the linebackers on the rush as well, a much more aggressive approach than their first two games, it appeared that it wasn't a good idea as that left Greg Jennings, and Larry Fitzgerald, two very talented receivers, on a one on one situation with the cornerbacks.

The offense keeps playing decent football, all 3 quarterbacks involved again. Bruce Gradkowski continue to play strong. Despite a poor 40% completion rate in the game, he threw 3 touchdowns in key situations. The Raiders will return home to host the 2-1 Houston Texans. The Texans improved their defense, it will be another tough game for the Raiders, but they hope to go to a 3 and 1 count on the standing before playing the Chargers.

The 3-Men QB Rotation Brings the Raiders Win #2

- THE 3-MEN QB ROTATION BRINGS THE RAIDERS WIN #2 -
Date: May 18, 2010

Some GMs will think it is crazy, but Raiders general manager Ricky Lung loves the unorthodox approach and loves to be in style, the designed 3-men quarterback rotation was decent on the opener, but they unlashed last night against a much younger Rams defense to give the Raiders win #2 on the season with a 44-10 victory over St. Louis.

Bruce Gradkowski, Tim Tebow, and Pat White each threw a touchdown to Darrius Heyward-Bey. He finished the game with 244 receiving yards on 7 catches. Speedy rookie receiver Marcus Easley, who was criticized by the media for getting drafted too high, also hualed in his first career touchdown from Bruce Gradkowski. First overall pick Bruce Campbell cannot hold his man and gave up 2 sacks to veteran Leonard Little. On the defensive side, the Raiders held rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who had a great Gridiron debut and the rookie of the week in week 1, in check. The Raiders broke up 16 passes in the process.

The next 3 games on the schedule will be a tough test for the Raiders. They will face the Cardinals and the Texans, two very talented teams who just pulled their record even with a convincing victory after a disappointing loss in the opening week. The Raiders will then take on the division favourite San Diego Chargers.

Raiders Win Opener Against Titans

- RAIDERS WIN OPENER AGAINST TITANS -
Date: May 14, 2010

All the offseason work was completed, and it is on to the field again to watch the results. The Raiders took win #1 last night against the Tennessee Titans. The Raiders defense was expected to keep the team in games this season and they did last night. A defensive score and 5 field goals from Janikowski are all the scoring from the Raiders.

On the individual level, all 3 quarterbacks have seen the field as expected for the Raiders. Bruce Gradkowski made the lone turnover on the night and set up a Chris Johnson rushing touchdown for the Titans. Tim Tebow threw 4 passes and completed 3 of them. The offensive line did not give up a sack and keep the quarterbacks in the pocket. Number one overall pick Bruce Campbell contributed 5 pancakes in the game.

Titans quarterback Vince Young was holding the ball way too long in most occasions, resulting in 5 sacks for the Raiders defensive line.

Next up is the St. Louis Rams who just put up 40 points on the board with rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen under center. The Raiders offense need to step up if they want to win in week 2.

Raiders 2010 Draft Central

- RAIDERS 2010 DRAFT CENTRAL -
Date: May 03, 2010

Round 1 Pick 1: OT Bruce Campbell
Round 2 Pick 2: WR Marcus Easley
Round 2 Pick 10: OLB Daryl Washington
Round 3 Pick 5: QB Tim Tebow
Round 3 Pick 26: DT Jeff Owens
Round 4 Pick 1: DT Earl Mitchell
Round 4 Pick 10: CB Nolan Carroll

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 1 Pick 1: OT Bruce Campbell, Maryland

Go to Raiders Press Conferece

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 2 Pick 2: WR Marcus Easley, Unversity of Connecticut

Key Attributes: 6'3" / 95 SPD

Analysis: It is tough to say it is not a Al Davis approach, but general manager Ricky Lung certainly doesn't want to think that way. Easley is very raw, but there is only one player in the whole league has a 6'3" frame along with a 95 rated speed in Calvin Johnson, only two if it lowered to 6'2" which includes Heyward-Bey. Again, it is hard to by pass physical talent now that it can't be trained extensively in Gridiron v2. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Chaz Schilens, and Marcus Easley may become one of the most dangerous receiving trio in the future. At the mean time, Easley will be seeing the field as a #3 or #4 receiver for the first couple of seasons until he improves his fundamental as well as his already high-end speed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 2 Pick 10: OLB Daryl Washington, Texas Christian University

Key Attributes: 6'2" / 230 lbs / 86 SPD / 73 AWR / 87 ACC

Analysis: With a plan of running a balanced or a 3-4 defense, the Raiders want to take a linebacker with great athleticism, they get one in Daryl Washington. Washington will be a great 3-4 rushing linebacker, he already possesses good awareness as a rookie, so even if he is called upon on a 4-3 set defense in times, he should be able to adjust despite his lack of strength. He expects to be their starting outside linebacker on the left side ahead of Kamerion Wimbley.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 3 Pick 5: QB Tim Tebow, Florida

Key Attributes: 65 AWR / 90 THP / 82 THA

Analysis: Everyone seems this pick coming, just a matter of time or will he lose him just because they waited too long. The Raiders have two quarterbacks on the roster, but we all know general manager Ricky Lung loves quarterbacks that can run. Tebow doesn't have the high end athleticism, but he certainly have the ability to be a successful quarterback in this league. Tebow has a decent field vision and a solid arm. His ball handling and strength will have him hang on to the ball and not fumbling the football unlike most other scramblers. We have to believe Ricky has the vision of turning Tebow into their starting quarterback in the future, but for now he will likely see the field in certain formations just like Pat White.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 3 Pick 26: DT Jeff Owens, Georgia

Key Attributes: 304 lbs / 61 SPD / 99 STR / 70 ACC

Analysis: They need a big lineman to play the 3-4, the Raiders did not get one, but at least they get a strong one. The team wanted Terrence Cody or Linval Joseph, but both were picked in the 2nd round. Although Owens isn't ideal, they feel getting him late in the 3rd is still a very good pickup since he is nonetheless extremely strong despite not having the size. Owens is not big either, so it is questionable whether he can play the 3-4. Without a doubt, he will be the team starting defensive tackle this year since they do not have one on the roster prior to the draft.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 4 Pick 1: DT Earl Mitchell, Arizona

Key Attributes: 304 lbs / 74 SPD / 86 ACC

Analysis: The Raiders will likely run some formation out of the 4-3 too since they want to play a more balanced defense. A second defensive tackle usually isn't that important in Gridiron. The Raiders drafted an athletic one. Mitchell has the speed and quickness, he is lacking the strength, but playing as a number 2 defensive tackle doesn't always needed to be all around.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 4 Pick 10: CB Nolan Carroll, Maryland

Key Attributes: 6'0" / 93 SPD / 60 AWR / 92 ACC

Analysis: Taking a 6'0" cornerback with 93 rated speed in the 4th? It has to be a great pick. Carroll out of Maryland also have a very reasonable field vision along with his solid athleticism. He will likely learn from 3 other athletic corners on the Raiders roster.
