"Tom Terrific to retire as a Patriot"
When Gridiron V2 began, the GM job got handed back over to John Stanley who finished the team's tenure in V1. This time he gets a fresh start and make it his team from the beginning.
The first thing Stanley did, was put Tom Brady on the block to gauge interest for the Superstar QB. What he got in return after looking around was not what he wanted. He had a set value in his head, that teams couldn't match and was more then happy to have Brady retire as a Patriot and bring in his future replacment through other means. After the Brady deal didn't materialize, Stanley went to work fixing his defense as the offense will be sharp as an arrow with Brady under center.
All three of the deals made so far have been to sure up the front seven in an eventual switch to a 4-3 defense. Belicheck is used to running a 3-4, but Stanley makes the point that it allows for scheme versatility and easier to make moves, and Belicheck is going along with it. This caused a major overhaul of the defensive line, which saw longtime Pat and a stronghold in the 5-technique, Ty Warren, released. The 2 players that the Pats needed to make it work were 2 rush DE's which they lack at the moment, so they went out and made some moves for some young pass rushers.
-------------------------------------------------------
Pats Send:
DT Ron Brace
3rd Round Pick
Texans Send:
DE Connor Barwin
-------------------------------------------------------
Pats Send:
2nd Round Pick
Raiders Send:
DE Quentin Groves
-------------------------------------------------------
Pats Send:
WR Julian Edelman
Chargers Send:
OLB Shaun Phillips
-------------------------------------------------------
All these moves help sure up the Pats front seven and they are now set on the DLine aside from a #2 DT. At LB they are set with Mayo-Guyton-Phillips. They now will go into draft day with 1st, 2 2nds, 2 4ths, 5th and 7th. Looking to pick up a few other various needs like #2 DT, Secondary, HB, WR and OL.
The Patriots are rumored to looking to aquire another mid-1st round pick so they can grab one of the two players they covet in this draft. They have 2 targets they want to get at 2 of the listed positions above, and at the moment we don't have the names to give you, but GM Stanley confirms that the two players come from this list of needs above.
