Broncos 2011 Week 1 Report
Broncos triumphant in season opener; Robinson lost for the season

Kristine Johnson, Sports Writer, denverbroncos.com

DENVER, Colo. (AP) -- The Broncos were looking to start the 2011 season on a positive note and that they did, defeating the visiting Buffalo Bills by the score of 48-16. But their victory had a cost when 4th year WR Laurent Robinson collided with Bills defensive back Leodis McKelvin. Team personnel rushed out to the field when Robinson didn't move, and he was carted off the field where he was immediately taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital for further tests and x-rays.

The offense who was led by undrafted free agent Levi Brown played a strong and consistent game against the Buffalo defense. Brown came out to the field with confidence and it showed as he completed 18 of 29 for 294 yards and 3 touchdown passes. HB Knowshon Moreno rushed for 200 yards on 22 carries and racked up 3 rushing touchdowns in the process. Chad Ochocinco finished his debut with the Broncos collecting 8 catches for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns, one of which was dedicated to Robinson.

The Broncos new man in the middle Moe Jackson led the defense in tackles with 9, two of which were for losses and a single deflection. Big man rookie DE Terry Bailey had 5 tackles with one for a loss and found his way to Bills Sophmore QB Sam Bradford twice.

Coach McDaniels issued the following statement following the game ..

"I was very impressed with the way Levi handled the offense out there today, he looked like a very different person from last season. It's still quite early to determine if he will be our franchise quarterback, but for now the position is his until we deem it otherwise. As far as Laurent's condition goes, he is moving which is a good thing, but we highly doubt that he will be back in pads anytime soon."

Next week the Broncos visit the defending Super Bowl Champion Minnesota Vikings in their new outdoor stadium. The Vikings (0-1) are coming off a 30-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys (1-0) and will be looking to be a chink in the Broncos armor.
