Broncos 2011 Week 2 Report
Broncos improve to 2-0 with win over Vikings

Kristine Johnson, Sports Writer, denverbroncos.com

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) -- After winning the opener at home against the Buffalo Bills, the Broncos went on their first road game in Minneapolis, Minnesota to take on last years Super Bowl Champion Minnesota Vikings. The Broncos pretty much went Burger King on the Vikings as everything went their way for much of the game.

QB Levi Brown, though not scoring a single touchdown pass, did well in not turning the ball over for the second consecutive week. Brown completed 16 of 31 for 175 yards. Knowshon Moreno rushed for 128 yards on 29 carries and scored his 4th rushing TD of the season.

The defense kept the Vikings offense in check for a majority of the game, holding the Vikings to only 76 yards rushing and 88 yards through the air. MLB Moe Jackson once again led the defense this week in tackles with 7. Brodrick Bunkley had 4 tackles with 1 for a loss and a sack, defensive end Igor Olshansky had 3 tackles and 2 sacks. Both Revis and Champ had 4th QTR interceptions which pretty much stopped any chance of a come from behind.

Next week the Broncos go back to Invesco Field where they will host the Peyton Manning led Green Bay Packers

Broncos 2011 Week 1 Report
Broncos triumphant in season opener; Robinson lost for the season

Kristine Johnson, Sports Writer, denverbroncos.com

DENVER, Colo. (AP) -- The Broncos were looking to start the 2011 season on a positive note and that they did, defeating the visiting Buffalo Bills by the score of 48-16. But their victory had a cost when 4th year WR Laurent Robinson collided with Bills defensive back Leodis McKelvin. Team personnel rushed out to the field when Robinson didn't move, and he was carted off the field where he was immediately taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital for further tests and x-rays.

The offense who was led by undrafted free agent Levi Brown played a strong and consistent game against the Buffalo defense. Brown came out to the field with confidence and it showed as he completed 18 of 29 for 294 yards and 3 touchdown passes. HB Knowshon Moreno rushed for 200 yards on 22 carries and racked up 3 rushing touchdowns in the process. Chad Ochocinco finished his debut with the Broncos collecting 8 catches for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns, one of which was dedicated to Robinson.

The Broncos new man in the middle Moe Jackson led the defense in tackles with 9, two of which were for losses and a single deflection. Big man rookie DE Terry Bailey had 5 tackles with one for a loss and found his way to Bills Sophmore QB Sam Bradford twice.

Coach McDaniels issued the following statement following the game ..

"I was very impressed with the way Levi handled the offense out there today, he looked like a very different person from last season. It's still quite early to determine if he will be our franchise quarterback, but for now the position is his until we deem it otherwise. As far as Laurent's condition goes, he is moving which is a good thing, but we highly doubt that he will be back in pads anytime soon."

Next week the Broncos visit the defending Super Bowl Champion Minnesota Vikings in their new outdoor stadium. The Vikings (0-1) are coming off a 30-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys (1-0) and will be looking to be a chink in the Broncos armor.

Head Coach Josh McDaniels issued the following during an impromptu press conference;

"Last season, was a complete disaster, we tried the whole youth movement thing and we see where that got us. This past off-season, we brought in some veterans on the offense that should help us immensely"

When asked about the quarterback situation ....

"Kyle was the starter last year and though he didn't do bad, he didn't exactly do that well either. I did like what I've seen with Levi toward the end of the season. He was an undrafted rookie and initially we took him, just so if something happened to Kyle and/or Brady, our kicker wouldn't be behind center. Brady was out for the season, and we were less than impressed with Kyle's performance at that point, so we stuck Levi in and the rest is pretty much history. We missed out on the bid for McNabb who would of been a great asset combined with the talented receivers we have in place. If Kyle doesn't show us improvement from last year and Levi turns out to be a bust, we WILL be evaluating quarterbacks at the next Gridiron combine."

Orton is OK, leads Broncos to second win

Kristine Johnson, Sports Writer, denverbroncos.com

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- After last weeks fiasco at Invesco Field where both Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn left the game with injuries early in the game. The Broncos were looking to get back on track as they faced off against the Tennessee Titans.

Orton shook off whatever ailment that knocked him out the game last week and played well against Tennessee completing 19 out of 30 for 271 yards and 2 TD's. It was also his first full game without throwing a pick.

6th round pick WR Marc Mariani continues to impress the coaching staff as he had 54 yards on 5 catches and his second TD of the season. Maclin who's had somewhat of a quiet season thus far since his arrival from Philly had 7 receptions for 144 yards and his second TD of the season.

On the defense linebacker DJ Williams led the team with 8 tackles. Veteran CB Champ Bailey and Darrelle Revis both had 6 tackles. DE Marcus Thomas had 4 tackles and 2 sacks

Next week the Broncos will visit Maryland, as they face off against the 2-2 Baltimore Ravens.

Broncos fall to 1-2; Brandstater gets unexpected start

Kristine Johnson, Sports Writer, denverbroncos.com

DENVER, Colo. (AP) -- The Denver Broncos coming off a disappointing loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week, were looking to turn things around as they faced off against the visiting Indianapolis Colts.

The rain and wind made for nasty conditions to play in, and it seemed history.. recent history... would repeat itself. The Broncos played decently in the first half, but once again failed to deliver in the second.

Second year QB Tom Brandstater, certainly wasn't prepared to play in tonights game as both Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn would go down during the game. Brandstater ended his first start completing 17 out of 28 for 179 yards and threw an INT. Knowshon Moreno would also leave the field late in the 4th, but finished the day with 104 yards on 17 carries and a TD.

On the defense linebacker DJ Williams led the team with 13 tackles and 5 tackles for a loss. Veteran CB Champ Bailey grabbed his second pick of the season and took it 83 yards for his second TD of the year, he also had 9 tackles and 2 deflections.

Coach Josh McDaniels issued the following statement via press conference after the game:

"We hung in there as long as we could I suppose. Right now we are just concerned on Kyle and Brady's conditions and if they will be out of action for any length of time. I will add however, Tom had a huge weight on his shoulder, and he didn't do that bad of managing the team under the circumstances. Of course he made some errors, but overall, I was impressed and until we hear word on Kyle and Brady's test results we will most likely lean toward Tom as being the starter next week with Levi being #2..

Next week the Broncos will fly to Music City USA, Nashville TN as they face off against the Tennessee Titans
