San Francisco Draft DE Derrick Morgan 11th Overall |
- 49ERS TAKE MORGAN 11TH OVERALL -
Date: May 3rd, 2010
The first round of the Draft here at the Gridiron couldn’t have turned out any better for the San Francisco 49ers even if General Manager Russell Warner had scripted it himself.
The 49ers were looking for help at defensive end going into the draft and on Monday morning the 49ers landed Georgia Tech’s Derrick Morgan, who was a standout in that position by a mile however as predicted the teams above the 49ers were in need of other positions allowing the defensive end to fall to the 11th overall pick.
“This is a good day” Warner said with a small smile. “Overall it turned out very well for us.”
Although Morgan was predicted to fall to the 49ers by Gridiron Analyst David Maxwell it came as somewhat a surprise for the 49ers GM. Morgan’s work ethic, steadiness and ability to both rush the passer and stop the run made him the most complete player available at the defensive end position.
The 6-foot-3, 266-pound Morgan led the Atlantic Coast Conference with 12.5 sacks last season and had 19.5 in the last two years for the Yellowjackets, finishing his career with 29.5 tackles for loss. |
